Gorilla glue tested on rubber – results might surprise you!

You can use gorilla glue on a plethora of surfaces. You can easily use it on wood, metal, silicone, glass, leather, and even stones.

Their versatility makes them a top priority for outdoor stuff. But the real question is how this glue works on a rubber surface. We tested the gorilla glue on a rubber shoe to test this out.

As shoe glue, Gorilla glue turned out to be very handy. The main feature of this glue is that it has polyurethane elements, which work the best on rubber surfaces.

To check this out, we carried out the following steps on a rubber shoe:

  • We cleaned the shoe first so that no dirt remained while applying the glue.
  • Then, we moistened the area where the glue was supposed to be used.
  • After that, we applied tiny drops of glue on the affected part of the rubber shoe.
  • After applying the bond, the shoe was kept aside for an hour to dry up the gorilla glue.
  • It ended the process by trying the repaired shoes.

The results were positive because the gorilla glue helps create long-lasting solid bonds with the rubber.

It repaired the damaged part of the rubber shoe and eventually made it waterproof, which again ensured that the soles would not wear out soon.

Moreover, the glue gel fills up the damaged hole so that the rubber shoes will remain undamaged for a more extended period.

How long does gorilla glue take to dry on rubber?

Almost all of the types of adhesives come with different setting times. The setting and curing time for the gorilla glue is crucial as you might need something urgently.

Generally, the glue takes around 24 hours to set perfectly, irrespective of the surface applied. But when it comes to the rubber surfaces, the duration is much less.

Here, it will take 40-50 seconds to dry up, and you can accelerate the setting up process for use. In this regard, the prime two factors that affect drying and setting up are – heat and moisture.

If moisture is available, it results in a faster setting, and when the temperatures are high, the Gorilla glue sets up pretty quickly.  If you want to accelerate the total drying and setting process, you need to follow some simple tricks.

Firstly, keep the particular rubber surface clean that you want to repair. Then, apply the adhesive and let it dry for a minute.

While applying, if there is excess glue drop, remove it from the surface. Lastly, expose the glued part to a warm condition; it will automatically set up within two hours.

Does it work on silicone rubber?

The silicone glue gel is always the better option for silicone surfaces. However, using gorilla glue is also possible.

Only a few adhesives out in the market are fully compatible with silicone rubber. The most prominent reason is the difficulties in bond formation.

That said, with the gorilla glue, there is no issue. It works as the perfect sealant for silicone and can be used in various places, from the kitchen to the bathroom.

Can gorilla glue really hold rubber and glass together?

There is often a situation where you need to adhere rubber materials to the glass surface. It might seem tricky since the bonding will involve different materials altogether.

In such a type of bonding, more and often, epoxy glue is a viable option. But here the question is about Gorilla Glue.

To be honest, you can use clear gorilla glue but with some additional tasks. Before applying the adhesive, you need to dampen the glass surface and apply the adhesive to bond with the rubber.

Can gorilla glue really stick rubber to metal?

Yes, it is possible to bond rubber and metal using gorilla glue. You can use the Gorilla super glue gel as it is a metal-friendly agent.

It is possible because it dries fast, and there is no clamping that you will experience. The entire processes are fast and easy.  It can help to hold on to both surfaces without much sliding around. And the gel adds an anti-clog cap to block flowing out.

Moreover, it has a unique rubber particle element that helps stick metal and rubber precisely.

Gorilla glue really does stick to plastic and rubber

Adhering to rubber and plastic can be a challenging task for many. But with the right adhesive agent, it’s a pretty easy task.

You can use the Original Gorilla glue minis for this task. It can adhere to the rubber and plastic in the most suitable way. It is waterproof and dries up much more quickly than most other adhesives.

However, you must remember that this adhesive has some elements that might cause skin irritations. Besides, it will require clamping while curing.

Gorilla glue for rubber shoes: does it work?

Fixing shoes with adhesive is one of the most common practices. Primarily, shoe goo is widely used for repairing and adhering to the damaged part of rubber shoes.

However, Gorilla glue can also be a good alternative.

Since Gorilla Glue can be used as an adhesive for any material, it isn’t harmful to use it for a rubber shoe.

For shoe repair, the polyurethane elements of the Gorilla glue help in filling up the holes quite effectively.

Mostly, the gorilla glue clear grip is always the first choice in this case. The reason is the waterproof characteristics and higher levels of durability than other glue variants.

How to use gorilla glue on rubber?

You can use gorilla glue on rubber but not on all types. Not on every rubber type rubber bonding is possible with adhesive.

That is why for the selective adhesives, there are selective rubbers. Gorilla glue can only be used in the EPDM rubber and silicone rubber as a rubber adhesive.

Therefore, before you start using it, identify the rubber in which you will use gorilla glue.

Bottom line

Using glue on a rubber material is always a tricky task. And that said, for using a Cyanoacrylate adhesive like gorilla glue, you need to consider a lot of things.

In this article, we have discussed all the possibilities of how does gorilla glue work on rubber cement on different materials. Bonding with all these materials requires different variants of adhesive, which are clearly stated.

Above all, the goal was to let you know all the implications of using gorilla glue on rubber, and we hope that our attempt was successful.
